Carbon Literacy for Community Leaders – 8th July 2026 – Book your place now!
Carbon Literacy is a one-day course for community leaders, building climate knowledge, action planning and skills to drive local change.
Carbon Literacy is a day’s worth of climate learning and action. It equips individuals, communities and organisations with the knowledge, motivation and skills needed to take meaningful action against climate change. It is the largest low-carbon culture-change project of its kind in the UK and globally recognized with over 157,000 people and 14,000 organisations certified as Carbon Literate.
This Community Leaders course is targeted at those leading the way in community action across Bolton. By the end of the course, you will have:
- Gained an understanding of the basic science of climate change and how climate change will affect us both globally and locally
- Gained an understanding of how climate change will affect your local community
- Explored actions you can take as a community leader and what help is available
- Created an action plan to help reduce your personal carbon footprint and that of your local area
- Explored strategies for influencing others to take action on climate change

1:1 Support – Practical, tailored support to help your organisation take meaningful climate action
As part of the Bolton VCSE Eco Toolkit, we’re offering free 1:1 support to local voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations. These sessions are designed to support organisations at any stage of their sustainability journey – whether you’re just getting started or want to strengthen and embed what you’re already doing.
Support could include:
- A Sustainability Check-In to understand where you are now
- Help developing a simple, realistic Sustainability Action Plan
- Working with you to create or strengthen an Environmental Policy
- Linking sustainability to organisational development, governance and funding
- Practical ways to embed sustainability into everyday practice, not just plans
- Signposting to tools, resources and peer learning opportunities
Peer Mentoring
We are also developing a peer mentoring programme. Depending on your support needs you may be able to access three one-hour 1:1 mentoring sessions with a VCSE leader who has already taken successful steps to build a more sustainable organisation,
Places are limited and will be allocated to ensure a mix of organisation sizes, types and starting points.
