Karen Smith Karen Smith

Hi I'm Karen

As Turn Up The Value, I've been delivering social value coaching and training for organisations and communities across the North of England since 2016. I've been lucky enough to turn my deeply held social and environmental values into a successful business.

My social value journey started nearly twenty years ago, working firstly in the voluntary sector, then local government to improve social and environmental outcomes for communities across Greater Manchester.

I have a BA(Hons) in Human Geography, a Masters in Business Administration and an MA in European Environmental Policy and Regulation.

"Social value is more than just legislation to me. It's an approach that drives organisations to be the best they can be. I want to work with others on a journey towards a more sustainable future."

Creating Connections

I forge collaborative partnerships across public, private, community, and voluntary sectors to achieve social change. By developing networks of individuals, communities, and organisations, based on their complementary strengths and needs, we can make the progress our society needs.

Proper Good Bolton and the Local Access Programme

I’m a lead consultant, delivery partner and chair of the steering group for Proper Good Bolton, one of four areas in Greater Manchester that is part of the national Local Access Programme of enterprise development support and investment (known locally as proper Good).

I’ve worked in multiple roles across Greater Manchester’s Local Access Programme since its inception six years ago. I helped to write the bid that secured the initial contract for Greater Manchester, and I’m now a delivery partner for the programme in a number of areas.

It's all about the community

As a resident of Bolton in Greater Manchester, I’m committed to the growth of social business in our town. I’m heavily involved with several partnerships that support social value and social enterprise, including the Proper Good Social Enterprise Network and the Bolton Family Social Value Partnership.

I’m a proud Director of We Be Kids CIC, a social enterprise whose main aim is to provide free activities for children and families to take part in together and boost their wellbeing. You can find out more here www.webekids.net
